Vale – Mick Tullio

We sadly mark the passing of Mick Tullio on 21st August 2012.

Mick was born on the 8th February 1946, the fifth of Salvatore and Grace’s seven children. Growing up in Essendon, Mick left school early to work in shops in Moonee Ponds where he showed a natural flair for sales and dealing with customers. Mick enjoyed retailing and wanted to become a store manager … but his father had other ideas.

Micks’ father and brothers worked market gardens around Keilor, Tarneit and Mt Cottrell with Mick marketing their produce at the Footscray Wholesale Market and at times the old Victoria market.

Once again Mick had found his place. Despite the early morning starts he loved the atmosphere and friendly banter at the Market.

Mick later established his own farm in Werribee South which he operated with his three sons Mike, Robert and Rick.

Micks’ great passion was his artichokes. He loved growing them, he loved eating them and he packed every box with pride.

A fanatic Collingwood supporter, Mick also loved playing sport, competing in pennant squash until the week before he died.

Mick is remembered as a tireless worker, a loving husband and father, a very generous and honest man and a friend to many.

His passing is a shock to all who knew him, and he will be terribly missed.

He potters no more in the garden
He strolls no more down the path
But the years we shared together
Will live forever in our hearts.

                             Farewell Mick
