Accurate 7 day local Victorian weather forecasts are now freely available from the Bureau of Meteorology. The Bureau has been evaluating their new forecast system since late 2008. The new system integrates weather information including rainfall, cloud, temperature, wind speed and direction, air pressure, humidity, evaporation and light intensity, to provide accurate local 7 day forecasts.
Forecast Explorer allows growers to view weather details for their local area down to a 6 kilometre grid. Features that growers will find extremely useful include frost predictions, a 7 day rainfall forecast, as well as a 3 month rainfall outlook.
Another feature vegetable growers will find useful is the weekly wind speed and direction forecast, which can assist with planning spray programs. The forecasts are updated twice daily. As well as providing forecasts for local areas, the maps make it easy to see how the weather is likely to change over the coming week.
