The annual AUSVEG / HAL Regional Roadshow has now been held in Werribee and Cranbourne. The events provided local growers with an update on the current National Vegetable Levy-funded R&D program as well as topical presentations from various speakers. Presentations were made by AUSVEG, HAL and the Industry Advisory Committee (IAC). Consultants also outlined several Levy funded projects including the ‘Crisis Management Program’ as well as the ‘Consumer Perception and Behaviour in relation to fresh vegetables’ project. Growers also heard from Mr Bill James (TradeStart), who gave an overview on potential export opportunities for Victorian growers. Dr Doris Blaesing (RM Consulting Group), also provided in-depth analysis of plant health & benchmarking tools available to vegetable growers. HAL is managing 153 projects on behalf of the Vegetable Industry this year including robotics, export market research, grower study tours, the Nuffield Scholarship program and Growing Leaders program.
“Australian vegetable growers are very excited by the nature of the research their levy is funding, particularly projects investigating promising technologies such as automation and robotics,” said AUSVEG Communications Manager, William Churchill.
