Horticulture Australia have engaged RMCG to investigate the costs associated with the production, sale and distribution of Vegetables. The project will be conducted through desktop research and industry consultation.

The approach adopted for this project will be:

• To identify and categorise the costs impacting on vegetable levy payers and to analyse the magnitude of these costs. The findings will be validated through consultation with regionally based partners.
• To develop a process for identifying the cost issues most important and appropriate to the industry. This will enable a priorities plan to be constructed aimed at reducing these key on and off-farm costs.

A new study into reducing vegetable production costs

The project aims to develop a greater understanding of the priority cost of production issues for the industry, and to develop an improved strategic approach to managing these issues at both a national and regional level.

Greater focus will be applied to managing the cost of production issues that are within the control of levy payers, in order to identify opportunities for improved business profitability.
